The flu, a cinnamon bun, and a very danish hot dog

Thats right, i didn’t just feel under the weather, I had the flu and it knocked me out for a solid 3 days. After being bed bound and hacking up a lung for a few days I decided to try my hand at navigating the Danish healthcare system and find a doctor. It was shockingly easy and a nurse on a hotline got me an appointment with a general practitioner around the corner from my apartment within 40 minutes. He proudly diagnosed me with the flu after a few swabs and blood tests, and prescribed me… tylenol. The Danish approach to healthcare is definitely much more conservative than the American approach, and I already had tylenol in my bag, but luckily my mom sent me with tamiflu so I was prepared! (Thanks mom! I know we thought I’d never need it, let alone this quickly) A few days later I am feeling much better and am well on my way to being 100% again.

Nyhavn

I’ve made a few excursions since being back on my feet, including a trip to Nyhavn (that famous canal that everyone has to take a picture in front of in Copenhagen) with Izzy, Emily Kerstein, and Izzy’s flatmate Sarah. We got a cinnamon bun on the way and unfortunately, I immediately dropped it on the ground, much to my dismay, but much to the delight of the aggressive pigeons that flocked to it! We did a little shopping as well, and went to lunch at the glass market, which is a cute half open marketplace with lots of stalls with food and pastries.

On the subject of food, I also got the most delicious danish hot dog that Izzy introduced me to (of course she got the vegan version). It was a traditional Danish roasted hot dog with all the fixings which was amazing. It was a little cart that is right at the end of Izzy’s street. She has become my personal photographer and had to snap some pics of me posing with it

Overall, a pretty good week. I got my first two days of classes down and my professors all seem really cool and my classes seem interesting. Izzy and I even had our first bike adventure! We got to bike over the canal at sunset which was beautiful! I still should probably take it easy for the next few days but i think i might go out instead…
